Thanks for posting this. I'd completely forgotten the date when CHU was leaving the airwaves. I always got WWV better for some reason and at least it's still there (for now) but I will miss the old gal and her constant reminders of the time in two languages.
By the way, I heard from someone that WWV's signal is used by some devices to keep their clocks on time to the second. Is this true? And if so, wouldn't turning it off - if that happens - leave a lot of those devices obsolete?

Very true. They are called Atomic Clocks [though they are not atomic]. They synchronize with WWVB's 60kHz signal from Colorado. I have several and they are great. Easily available from many sites.
If you are considering buying one, you will need to live in an area with low radio noise to get the signal. They sync up during over night.
So if you live in a high-rise and face east, forget it!
If WWVB goes off the air, yes the devices would just keep time like a normal clock.

Several Toronto FMs can set your radio's clock, too - though not all of them accurately (I'm looking at you, 94.1)
