The PWHL (Professional Women's Hockey League) announced Wednesday that two new teams will join the fledging organization next season - one is in Las Vegas, the other in Hamilton.
Is this the kind of programming CHCH might pick up? A lot would depend on the cost of the rights, production - and the interest. But in the past, Channel 11 did have an afternoon hockey game or two, and there's bound to be some interest in this new addition in the city that always wanted an NHL franchise.
This isn't quite that, but it seems as close as the Steel City might ever get, thanks to the influence of the Leafs and Sabres. And there's obviously high interest, if recent history is any proof.
"Hamilton drew more than 16,000 fans to a game between the Toronto Sceptres and Seattle Torrent in January at TD Coliseum, where the PWHL team will play its home games.
Seventy per cent of the people who came to January's game in Hamilton were attending their first PWHL game, the league's data showed. That helped give the league confidence that a Hamilton team won't siphon fans from the Sceptres, which play in downtown Toronto at Coca-Cola Coliseum."
PWHL to add teams in Hamilton and Las Vegas ahead of next season

I'm guessing no.
The league produces their own broadcasts and then works out broadcast deals with various national networks and platforms ensuring that every game is available nationally (and internationally) to fans of all teams.

Unfortunate for CH. This would seem a perfect fit for them. Imagine the hype if Hamilton ever faced Toronto for the championship!

They could work out a deal whereas CHCH and some other broadcaster both cover the games, much like Bell & Rogers as they both air Leafs and Raptors games, it would also help to generate interest in Hamilton if locally carried, and Hamilton vs. Toronto for the championship would be something!
Online!
CHCH broadcast Hamilton Jr. Red Wings hockey games Thursday nights from 1960-74 at the Hamilton Forum aka the Barton Street Barn with Norm Marshall doing the pxp. Three homes stand on the site of the former arena.

This would make zero difference. You're acting as if the people of Hamilton don't have Sportsnet or TSN, however I'm willing to wager that those channels have better viewership in Hamilton than CHCH does
