I really believe this was where it was always going to go.

The current WKRP-LP is a 100-watt radio station based in Raleigh, North Carolina. If you've been following this story for a while, the small (well, tiny, really) outlet sold its famous call letters to the highest bidder and Cincinatti was the obvious location.
But it's fascinating to see just how small the Raleigh outlet really is.
"The transmitter is in a corner of [owner D.P.] McIntire’s garage, between a recycling bin and the cleaning supplies. The broadcast antenna sits atop a 25-foot (7.62-meter) metal flagpole in the backyard. The studio — microphones and a mixing board hooked up to a computer — is on the first floor of McIntire’s home."
Have to admit, that sounds a lot more like the real TV-based WKRP than whoever gets those legendary four letters.

Was it ever mentioned in the series what frequency WKRP operated on? I think Johnny Fever once mentioned 50,000 watts.

I believe it was 1530 AM, which, ironically, is the real home of WCKY in Cincinnati. Not sure how they got away with that. There was also a station in the city called WKRC, but they were at 550 and called themselves 55KRC at the time the show was on. Very close to the WKRP call letters.

I knew about WKRC. I actually heard them once. WGR was on reduced power one night and was easy to null. Didn't know about the 1530 thing.
