Lots Of Late Breaking News May Delay U.S. Primetime On Wednesday

Give your DVR extra time if you record off of U.S. channels Wednesday night. There's a lot going on to delay your favourite shows.

The first is the launch of Artemis II, NASA's most high profile mission in years. With a Canadian on board, this one may even be covered by Canadian stations, but it will certainly be something you'll see on all the U.S. networks. It's scheduled to occur during the evening news, but there's no way of knowing how long the coverage will go on and whether it might delay the usual programs that follow.

But the biggest roadblock to a normal night on TV is a suddenly scheduled 9 PM nationwide address by Donald Trump on the war in Iran - and you know how long he can bloviate when the cameras are on him. There are new episodes of the Chicago shows on NBC, simulcast here on City TV.

So I'm assuming Canadian stations will keep to their regular schedules, blowing simsub here out of the water, with the speech and the analysis that inevitably follows running long.

Adjust your recording schedules accordingly.

The networks are counting on the Orange One to only go 20 minutes. If that happens, then here's the line-up on U.S. TV, with an odd interruption in one show. I'm assuming Global will show it intact, but who knows?

"CBS...will pause tonight’s two-hour Survivor installment at 9 p.m., and resume it at 9:20. This week’s episode of the freshman cooking competition America’s Culinary Cup will in turn start at 10:20, and end at 11:20 p.m.—pushing local news programming and then The Late Show back by 20 minutes for East Coast viewers.

NBC is taking a similar approach. Chicago Med will air as scheduled during the 8 o’clock hour, but Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. will respectively start at 9:20 and 10:20 p.m. ET. Following local news programming, The Tonight Show like The Late Show will hit your screens at 11:55 p.m."

Trump Address Will Also Delay Colbert and Fallon Wednesday Night

Re: Lots Of Late Breaking News May Delay U.S. Primetime On Wednesday

As for Canada, Global aired Survivor at its scheduled time but gave no advance warning of its plans to handle Trump’s speech. About 8:40 pm, after several unsuccessful tries, they finally put a slow crawl banner across the bottom of the screen saying Survivor would “pause” at 9pm for a “live news event” and would resume as soon as possible. They aired an episode of “Border Security” at 9:00 pm and picked up Survivor at approximately 9:20 pm.

Undoubtedly a confusing night for people who don’t follow the news and wondered where their programming went.
