Could you survive an on-air shift without drinking a single cup of coffee? Or even tea?
John Moore does.
The veteran CFRB morning show host told his audience on Tuesday's show that the only thing he sips on during his four hour shift every day is hot water.
I guess it's an acquired taste, but I'm sure it soothes his throat.
I can't say for sure, but I'll venture a guess that he's likely the only Toronto morning radio host to have this on his in-show menu.
I once did a week of overnights without any coffee just to see if I could do it. I'm not a big java drinker, so it didn't really bother me. But I'm pretty sure for some, it would be unthinkable.

I had to quit a 4 cup a day coffee addiction cold turkey a year and a half ago after becoming ill with a bone marrow disease. It made me so dizzy I could hardly stand up straight. I don't even like the smell of it now. I now have one cup of green tea with honey, lemon and ginseng in the morning, and an occasional turmeric with ginger blend as a pacifier in the afternoon on weekends .

A few times over the years, Moore has talked about seeing a throat/voice doctor to keep his voice in top shape and water was the expert's best recommendation: Milk/dairy is phlegm producing, juice is acidic, coffee and its caffeine content can lead to constriction and dehydration, tea can be equally drying, and soda/carbonated drinks can irritate the throat. Classic water is still the best recommendation. ![]()

Although I don't drink near as much coffee as I did in my youth, I still require two cups of coffee after I wake up to jumpstart my system. I've been drinking coffee since I was 5, and there's no way I'm ever giving it up completely.

I don't drink any hot beverages. Just cold ones. Beer, juice, milk, water, pop[but not diet] and the occasional glass of red wine with dinner.
