Nice to see they kept the 550 in their logo. That's unlike most stations that go to an FM simulcast, who seem to suddenly forget they even have a signal on the other band. But it could be because the FM signal is weak. I live in northern North York and 550 AM beams in here perfectly. I can't get either of the other frequencies listed at all.

Do you have an HD radio?
Its on 1 of WKSE's hd subchannels.
But I'm near the bluffs so I can get WKSE like a local sometimes.

Yes, I have an HD radio in the car. But I don't listen to any of those stations, although WKSE does come in here quite well. I was talking from a DX point of view.

The only way you can hear it in toronto is if you have an HD radio.

Because wgr is also on a subchannel, will audacy do the smart thing and put the star format on an hd subchannel?

It no longer needs to be on the WSKE sub-channel as they can now say that 104.7 is relaying 550 AM. Star is already on 107.7's subchannel.

What I ment was move the star format from 107.7 HD 2 to 1 of WKSE's subchannels.

There's no point in doing that. It's only on the HD so they can keep ownership of the brand in the market and not pay streaming royalties. It would be a bad idea to put it on 98.5 as the music on Kiss and Star overlap quite a bit.

107.7 analog has always came in fine for me in north Mississauga at home with tuner in narrow reception mode. Not so good in car.AM 550 crystal clear in car .

I can get neither FM, but I'm downtown.

I heard it on Wednesday in my car not far from Yorkdale. It was mixed 50/50 with Oshawa.

I like Pergament, but he's a little off base on this one, as I mentioned in my NERW column today. Audacy already *has* a sports station here in Rochester, WROC 950 (also heard on WBEE-HD2 and a translator on 95.7), which had also been carrying One Bills Live along with the Sabres and Bills (who have also been on Audacy's WCMF 96.5).

If anything, expanding the reach of WGR into the Rochester market could actually hurt Audacy slightly, because any listener tuning into WGR-FM in Rochester won't do anything for WGR-FM's ratings in the Buffalo market, and could take away from WROC's already fairly small ratings here. Unless 950/95.7 here becomes mostly a WGR simulcast, which would be more interesting than the Westwood One Sports content they're mostly carrying here outside of a local 3-6 PM sports talk show.

Not questioning your expertise, but I'm not sure anyone thought this was going to happen.

"Beginning at 11pm ET on Sunday, Feb. 22, the station (WROC) will rebrand as WGR Rochester, extending the reach of Western New York’s leading sports audio voice."

Despite the rebranding, the WROC call letters will remain, but the on-air programming will be heavily skewed towards Buffalo, with at least one local show covering Rochester.

The temporary station ID they are running is a bit of a mouthful: https://youtu.be/mouwNHd97Do

Add in the Rochester stations and that's what, 6 frequencies simulcasting their programming.

I still have to listen most of the time with a side loaded Audacy app and a Buffalo VPN here in Oshawa... 550 just isn't quite reliable enough in the car.

Maybe not all that temporary. I personally think having it on WKSE's HD is now redundant, and having it on two of them definitely is. But everything else would stay in there.

Re: Buffalo's WLKK Changing Call Letters To WGR-FM Feb. 19th

104.7 is licensed as a translator of WKSE so they need to keep at least one of the 98.5 HD feeds going for as long as they want to keep that frequency going.

fwiw the mention of HD4 has already been removed from the station ID (along with changing WLKK to WGR-FM)

Can they not just say 104.7 is translating 550?

That's interesting. I occasionally make it out to Whitby and WGR is extremely strong and clear. WBEN is clear but not nearly as strong.
