CFRB's John Moore is taking an extra long vacation and won't be back with all the other regulars on Monday. Instead, John Tory will be taking his place. I'm not sure, but I think Moore will return on Tuesday.
It's also the first day of the new line-up on AM640, with Brad Smith taking Ben Mulroney's old 9AM-noon time slot, and the latter taking the retired John Oakley's 3-6 PM afternoon drive show.
It seems like forever since new shows were back on the radio. The holidays were nice, but I have to admit I was kind of getting tired of Xmas mode. I'll be very happy to have things back to normal.

Best of luck to Brad and Ben. I have no doubt both new shows will be successful.

Love him or hate him, moving Ben Mulroney to drivetime is a no-brainer for AM640. He's a well known name and they needed a replacement for another well known name - John Oakley.
Plus they get a two hour nationwide show for all their talk stations across the country. And the higher profile daypart needed someone who might attract attention.
You don't have to like BM to see why this made sense and was probably inevitable.

RA - all true. However, just for the record, I do like BM and I think he is not only talented, but almost uniquely situated to comment on public affairs. He had a bird's eye view of politics like very few, and I think it helps shape his opinions. He's also, as my family would say, "a hell of a nice guy." Go get 'em, Ben.

95.3 also seems unchanged...

I just went onto the 640 website, they still have Ben listed fot 9am.

Yes, and no mention of Brad Smith's new show or his new timeslot. AM640 is notorious for not updating its site to reflect the current day - or week or even month.

I like Ben Mulroney, and was a regular morning listener. I'll be listening in the afternoons. I wonder if his pm content will be as heavy on the Israel v. Palestine and antisemitism issues, which frankly dominated his morning show. We'll see...

John Tory says he will be back for the morning run on Tuesday. Does this mean Moore is taking an extra week off, after being gone for two weeks during the Christmas/New Year's holiday? That's a long absence for a morning man.
Also Alex Pierson will not be doing her show from noon-3 PM on AM640 Monday. Not sure if that's just one extra day or not. No word yet on who will be taking her place but my money is on her producer Mike Drolet.
So I guess things are not back to normal with just one exception, after all.

Kelly Cutrara and Roy Green are still listed under Personalities, too.

Well at least there's no reference to Stafford and Mojo!

So was the Christmas stunt just a stunt to throw everybody else off the scent?

Actually, something interesting I just discovered: if you Google "chml 900 global news", some of the defunct station's webpages still come up. For those of you that enjoyed the old radio shows on CHML, some of those are still available to listen to on demand.
Guess they could only afford someone to take down the main page. ![]()

I wouldn’t mind if Agnew was sitting in again this week for Moore…..!

From a social media post, it appears that John is on vacation in Southeast Asia with, among others, Maureen Holloway and her husband.

So from that, I can only assume it will be Tory all week.

Maybe it was just seasonal holiday music and assumptions get made ...
The funny thing about this non-change is I was in my car for the first time this year and had the radio sound down when I checked 95.3 ... figured the RDS would indicate a change and I was talking to my spouse. The RDS didn't fully kick in and the 'format' tag said Country Music (these errors happen, for whatever reason). I turned the audio up, and the song was kinda sorta crossover, so I checked 94.7, which was clearly country, then back to 95.3 and it was essentially what it's always been, CHR-pop. I didn't bother for an ID...

Good guess but wrong. Turns out they subbed with Anthony Furey. Is he their new one and only fill-in now that Brad Smith has his own show?

Woke up early this morning and listened to Tory -- but not for long.
Is he on something?
He was talking almost manically fast, jumping from topic to topic.
Had to tune him out.

First John Moore, now Jim Richards. Deb Hutton is doing double duty all week as Richards takes an extra 7 days off.
Wow, some of these guys at CFRB are getting three weeks-plus off. I don't think I can remember a vacation time that went on that long in a personality dependent medium like talk radio. Nice work - and perk - if you can get it.

So .. where's Michael Downey ?

I heard him after the show went local at 5 PM. It may mean he stays silent when the show is national, but it's just the first day.

I would have preferred it if Mark Towhey had been replacing Richards this week!

I suspect it's cheaper to just extend Deb Hutton's hours - no extra paycheque for Mr. Towhey required. This is Bell we're talking about, after all.

Permanently would be better still.

this is why sports radio can be a useful escape from regular talk radio
I can't wait to have John Moore back on 1010.
I miss having Scott Reid and Mark Towhey on-air on a daily basis.
I did get a kick out of the call in segment Deb Hutton did this afternoon on the closing of Filmore's strip club and the moment when a caller responded to her question about "when was the last time you went to a strip club" and informed Deb and the audience that the rise of multiple massage parlours (and their easier to access happy endings) helped to diminish the value and popularity of strip clubs. Deb wasn't exactly shocked, just bemused, amused...

John Tory just announced that he will be filling in for John Moore until next Thursday, talk about a Christmas break!
Offline
Thursday? Does that mean Moore is coming back for one single day and then going off for another weekend? That makes no sense, although Ben Mulroney did the same thing last week on AM640. You might as well finish the week with one last day off and start fresh on Monday. If, indeed, that's their plan.

No need to waste a vacation day if you don't want it.
