AM640 Still Airing John Oakley Voiced Spots - But For How Long?
I just heard John Oakley's voice on AM640 touting the wonders of Frank Leo and his minions. He's been doing that for years of course, but with one big difference - all the Tom's Place and Leo spots occurred when he was actually working there.
His memory is still around - it's only been a few weeks since he signed off, after all - but how long is too long to allow a former personality do ads on a station where he no longer works?
I suppose it's not without precedent - Bill Carroll is still heard all the time on CFRB shilling for the real estate mogul, and he hasn't really been in the Toronto market for years.
Are we going to keep hearing the dulcet (or dull set for those who weren't fans) of Mr. Oakley for the foreseeable future? How long after a personality leaves a station can they still be on that station?

You can still hear Ted Woloshyn shilling for Tom from time to time, and he hasn't been on air in the Toronto market since the middle ages.

Come to think of it, Chris Chreston left AM640 over a year ago to work as Communications Advisor to the City of Markham. But he still hosts a financial show on the station every other Sunday.
And as noted here in the past, Russell Wells is still doing spots for The Briton House and Zelda Young still does intros for The Jewish Hour on CHIN Radio - and both have been dead for many years.

Not sure how many know that Russell Wells' middle name was Briton, and the place is named after him.

CTV 2 Barrie aka CKVR, is still airing commercials for Paul Sadlon Motors featuring Paul himself . He passed away last weekend at age 93. It could be the business, run by his son and daughter, wanted the ad's to continue as is for the time being, in tribute to their father, but it is kind of morbid perhaps to some viewers. I would bet a new spot or two will be hastily produced asap. RIP Mr Sadlon.
