For some viewers, CPAC may be a channel they don't even know they get. The Canadian Public Affairs Channel offers coverage of the political goings-on in Parliament and in Ottawa and brings Question Period to those interested in watching their elected officials in action. (Or for some, inaction!)
It's a must carry station for cable subscribers and it costs you 13 cents a month, whether you want it or not. But CPAC execs. say that's no longer enough to sustain the service and insist they need more money from subscribers or they may have to shut the channel down. But so far the CRTC has refused to grant any increase - something the CPAC folks have been asking for since 2018.
The question: would you be willing to pay more for this public service channel, even if you never watch it? In the end, if the funding increase is granted, you won't have a choice, increasing your bill by at least $1.56 a year for this one entity alone. .

I may have consciously tuned into CPAC twice...ever, but it's somehow comforting to know that a non-partisan service is there if I ever want/need it.
Hell yes, charge me $1.56/year ($0.00427/day).
Have you seen the price of Starbucks Espresso...$7.25, but apparently no one bats an eyelash at that?

What CPAC does ( at least on YouTube) is provide full length press conference's and political meetings at the federal and provincial level. This is something no one else does that I am aware of. But the funding model needs to change. What that should become, I am not sure. CBC should really be doing this, why they are not is also something I don't understand.

Have never watched it. No interest in paying more to keep it. I would not lose any sleep if it shut down. While their at it, Shut down the Home Shopping Channel as well. With Amazon available, why do we need this loser channel.

I watch CPAC from time to time. Likely only political junkies would watch it much. They have question period from Britian and also material from the US service C-SPAN. Caught the tail end of a feature that looked interesting, an update on the reconstruction of the Centre Block. I will look for this on their Youtube channel. A good channel to watch on election nights, and the workings of parliament. Also CPAC has some good historical specials. Don't mind paying pennies per month for this channel at all.

I think the question that needs to be asked is does it need to be a linear channel taking up a dial position on what ever STB you own?
Why not just a streaming web site? After all most of the time there is nothing to broadcast.

I have tuned into CPAC before, usually to watch Question Period when there is a heated issue happening in our politics. I’ve watched some of their other programming, some interesting stuff but also some fairly dry as well! All in all, I would have no problem with having to pay $1.56 a year more to keep it.
