His name was Fred Merritt and he obviously had merit - he worked at CKKW and CFCA in Kitchener for many years, starting in 1966 and ending when CHUM took over the stations in 1994. He did a regular evening show called "Night Flight," one of those easy listening type programs that CFCA was once famous for.
He also worked at CFOR Orillia, CFCO in Chatham and ended his career at CKWR-FM, spending more than half a century in radio.
He was 83.

I remember Merrit well. He also did an afternoon show on CFCA called There's Merrit in Stereo.

Mr. Merritt was a class act all the way. I listened to both his morning show Merritt in Stereo as well as Night Flight.

Back in their MOR days WJR also had a Night Flight program that aired from Midnight-6am. It was called Night Flight 760.

I remember him at CFCO. The station was part of the Great Lakes Broadcasting, which included CFOR, and CHYM as well as CFCO.
Dave Hodge, of Hockey Night in Canada, was the sports director for a very short time in the 1960s at CFCO.
Any word on a date for the CFCO conversion to FM?

I knew of Mr. Merritt when I was in high school more than 50 years ago
A girlfriend of mine at that time knew him and his family
I must admit I'm suprised he was "only" 83
He had a very mature presentation at a very young age
