Face it, we all hate our program providers, be it Rogers, Bell or Netflix. The prices never stop escalating and sometimes, you only just want to see one or two shows you really like. But in the case of cable, you get a lot of junk stations you never watch but have to shell out for.
But what would happen if you cut the cord and don't want to pay a month's fee just to see the big game on Sportsnet or Paramount+? I wonder if a new option being offered in the U.S. could ever spread here. Dish Network has a streaming subsidiary called "Sling TV," which offers a variety of channels for a monthly fee. Now it's introduced a Day Pass, which gives you one day of access to the stations it carries without obligating you to take it for a full 30 days.
It's $4.99 for a day, $9.99 for a weekend, and $14.99 for a month.
I'm not sure how many people would take advantage of such an offer, but it certainly is interesting if a single show or sporting event is all you want to see.
"Rather than forcing customers to sign up for a regular Sling subscription, which starts at $45.99 a month (with half off upon sign-up), the company is offering a way to hop on and off for big games, tournaments or series. Beyond sports, it also could have applications for award shows like the Oscars or other entertainment or news programming."
Is this something you'd be interested in trying for a service that has only a few shows you like? I think it's intriguing but I can't see Rogers or Bell allowing you to opt in and out like that.

I believe it's $14.99 US for a week.

TSN and Sportsnet used to have "daily" options. I took advantage of that the year the Raptors were champs.

Yes, sorry. Brain cramp.
This would interest me for a streamer that releases every episode of a series for bingeing at once, but I really wasn't crazy about anything else they offered. I'd take the week, watch all the eps., and be done with it. Or maybe just a weekend.

I know people who have bought one day or weekend packages from both TSN and Sportsnet. With Crave you can cancel anytime or after one month. I believe Netflix is the same. So what is the big change? My brother who doesn't have cable buys a one day from TSN all the time for things like early play on the Canadian Open and some NHL playoff games on Sportsnet.

Depends entirely on the event or program on offer. More options for a consumer are usually a good thing.

Also with cable they do have flex channels which allows you to drop or add channels at no extra cost. I have picked up various channels for a few days before to see a program or record something and then drop the channel later. Didn't cost me anything. Did they not offer these services south of the border?

Physical media still exists. For now.

Back when Boardwalk Empire was in production, Rogers had an HBO three month free trial. Since Empire only produced around 12 episodes per season. I would take the Rogers promotion, watch the show for free then cancel.
