"The Cable Song's" Message Still Stands Today

I'd never heard of this song before, but it's 15 years old. I guess that makes it an oldie or a throwback. It's a tune commissioned by Local TV Matters, a lobby group that seeks to keep up funding for local programming like news, even as cable (and now streaming) was starting to erode free TV's power.

It's by Dave Carroll, who became famous a few years ago for his infamous "United Breaks Guitars," when the airline mishandled one of his instruments and wouldn't make good on the damages.

What interests me is how well the message in the tune still stands up today. And you know what? It's not a bad song. Although I think the "cow" metaphor is a bit overextended. But that's an udder story...

You're right. It is a rather catchy tune.

Somewhat ironic that to hear it, you have to stream it...

They really milked that message dry.
