CBS Between A (Black) Rock & A Hard Place & It Could Destroy Them

Forget about The Young & The Restless or any other network soap opera. The one going on behind closed doors at CBS is the real thing. And it's absolutely flabbergasting.

There's a war on that the owner of the network and its newsroom can't hide and the story at the link below outlines not only what's at stake, but the now mostly open warfare between the woman in charge, trying everything to protect her investment, and its storied newsroom, which is trying to protect the truth and its own independence.

It's somewhat convoluted but fascinating. And if the wrong side wins, it could change the perception of the network forever. I never thought I'd read something like this. It's a story CBS itself should bring to viewers, if only it could.

It looks like the Tiffany Network Chandelier may be crashing soon.

This is really a continuation of the April 22nd '60 Minutes Producer' thread. I find your introductory framing a bit assumed at points RA. CBS News is not trustworthy.

Meanwhile President Trump is keeping on doing everything righteous.

Re: CBS Between A (Black) Rock & A Hard Place & It Could Destroy Them

What saddens me is that CBS was once the beacon for news in broadcast media, with names like Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow being respected and beyond reproach. It does seem obvious that the current leader of the country is on some kind of revenge bender for anyone he deems "done him wrong," and threatening to not approve a merger because you don't like the coverage you're getting is just wrong.

One is business related. The other broadcast. The two should not be intertwined, yet he can't help himself. I've always found CBS to be fairly accurate and 60 Minutes has been the standard for responsible reporting for decades.

And as a TV news guy with 30 years in the biz, editing is just part of the game to clarify a person's point without them rambling. It's not done to distort - it's done in the interest of saving time.

We used to go through tape at CFTR back in its rock days and cut out the "ums" and "ah's" in interviews for length. You'd be amazed how much time it could save on air. But it never altered the point the speaker was trying to make.

It sounds like the CBS owner is going to cave into the blackmail. What a shame. I'm glad Ed Murrow isn't alive to see this.

Can't say I'm surprised. If there ever was a country whose credo was "How much to make this not be a problem?", it's the U.S.
