A sincere and wholehearted apology

Hi everyone, I’ll more than admit I’ve been letting frustration and anger get the better of me the last few months, whether it’s related to broadcasting, current events and issues or whatever. This has been happening not just on Big Yella or anywhere else online, but in my personal life and, to an extent, my professional life as a freelancer, and I’m feeling an insane amount of remorse. Yes, there are some rather frustrating things happening these days, including in radio & TV, but I have seriously overreacted for sure.

I’m not sure what is at the root of me being so angry, hair-triggered/short-fused and overreacting so often, but either way, I know I need help, and I have set up an appointment with my family physician to get started, whether it’s meds or counselling or whatever is necessary to break the cycle and get Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde out of me. I am not a generally angry or mean person, it’s just that I’ve been overreacting (and then some) to some things, sometimes faster than I can nip in the bud.

To everyone here, I sincerely apologize for all the times I’ve overreacted or “blown up” on the big yellow board, and I am now doing everything in my power to ensure that these will not happen again. Consider this a pact - I will, effective immediately, limit my posts and comments/replies to calm, non-aggressive content, all related to radio, television and music, primarily around my home base in eastern Ontario. If I need to let my frustration out, I’ll write something to myself on my computer’s text editor and not in my browser at all, let alone on SOWNY.

Thank you for your understanding,

FP

Re: A sincere and wholehearted apology

All the best, man. That first step is the hardest. You got this.

Re: A sincere and wholehearted apology

Something else that might help. The next time you type a comment on the SOWNY board filled with fire and brimstone, before you press submit, just walk away for 10 minutes until you have calmed down. Then go back and read it. Your reaction will be OMG! I can't believe I was going to send this. By changing a few words and phrases, your opinion will come across as more reasonable. It has worked for me.

That's the Forward Power I remember! Good on you, sir. I wish you luck and you remain welcome here.

Re: A sincere and wholehearted apology

I really appreciate this Forward Power.  I had times where I seemed to habitually act out on people.  There were times in the past when a partner verbally abused me, yet in turn, I took it out on everyone else.  Yet, I never manned up and discussed it with her.  I found now with the current events, it only exacerbates this frustration.

I too apologize for rushing to judgement.  Cheers Forward Power.

Jody

(PS Things are good in the lady-friend department now ... couldn't be happier)  :D

This too. I also recommend reading a post aloud before hitting "post reply".

Re: A sincere and wholehearted apology

That took a lot of courage to post. First step is admitting a problem, second step is seeking help. You're on the right road to a solution.

Re: A sincere and wholehearted apology

Good on you Forward Power realizing the problem and now doing something to fix it.  I know you will have many on this site supporting you and will encourage and help you.  Keep up the good fight and don't get discouraged, we are rooting for you!

Re: A sincere and wholehearted apology

All the best to you, going forward (pardon the pun). Take care of yourself, friend.

Suffice to say, apology accepted from most (if not all) of us here at SOWNY.

(And yes, wait 10 minutes before hitting submit on a fiery reply is probably good advice for ALL OF US here...lol).

Re: A sincere and wholehearted apology

Good luck. I find in todays world of free expression via social media , it is so easy to type out a post that after reflection causes a person to have remorse. The anonymity factor is huge in this happening in my opinion.

Re: A sincere and wholehearted apology

I went through a similar experience a few months ago and my oldest friend called me out for some of my online comments, (not on SOWNY). He was right and it straightened me out. I think the world is on edge and it effects us, some more than others. Hang in there Forward Power and I wish you all the best moving forward.
