The fate of the country may be at stake, but nothing stands in the way of a hockey game with playoff implications. That's why Wednesday's French language debate will now start at 6 PM and run until 8, in order not to interfere with the Montreal Canadiens trying to get into the playoffs.
Two leaders asked for the change, believing most viewers would rather watch a game of importance than a Game of Thrones. Still, viewers who tune in the yakfest may only see the first hour of the parlez views - the big face-off begins at 7 o'clock, which could see a lot of Quebec viewers tune out the debate then.
There's a first time for everything and this is surely one of them.

If Columbus loses tonight or does not win in regulation time, the Hab game will be meaningless.

I thought of that, but I guess they weren't willing to take the chance and needed all the time possible to make the shift. Either way, it's done.

One venue is hosting both debates, couldn't they just swap the English and French nights?
