Valerie Pringle Retires

I landed on her Facebook page today and it says she'll be on The Agenda with Steve Paikin @ 8pm tonight to talk about her 5 decade broadcasting and journalism career.      Lately she's been hosting a program called 'Canada Files' on PBS

Tune in to find out more!

Re: Valerie Pringle Retires

When I first came to Toronto I heard and saw her and could not figure out what appeal she had.
She seemed quite so-so and mediocre.
It always surprised me that she moved up and up into better and better gigs while still presenting as unremarkable and nondescript.
But then this was also the era in Toronto broadcasting when news anchors were predominantly bland and blue eyed (like CFTO at the time).
I was used to Vancouver radio and TV which was always full of hosts and news anchors who had some oomph to them.
Never met Ms Pringle and I'm sure she is a nice person, never heard a bad word about her.
She's just a sort of nobody to me.

Re: Valerie Pringle Retires

Thanks for posting about Valerie Pringle's interview tonight on TVO.  Really enjoyed it, she has interviewed a lot of people over her long career.  Interesting that she started at CFRB at 19 while at university as a Good News Reporter.  She worked with all of the greats at RB. She even worked briefly with Steve Paikin while at CBC.

Re: Valerie Pringle Retires

Now I feel old. I remember when she was just a broadcasting student and doing guest spots on CFRB, back in the early 70s.

After all is said and done, more is usually said than done.

Congrats to Valerie on a long career. Here's a June 1973 ad in The Toronto Star from CFRB, with Valerie listed under her maiden name, Valerie Whittingham.

Re: Valerie Pringle Retires

That photo says a lot.  CFRB hiring 8 student reporters for the summer in 1973.  How many radio newsrooms have even one reporter now?

I wonder how many of the other seven reporters ended up having a successful broadcast career.

I recognized Terry Glecoff's name from his CBC association - he passed in 2014:

And Sue Prestedge did well with the CBC herself:
