Exactly! Whoever is willing to pay the big bucks gets the premium eye level shelf space. When I purchase toothpaste, only Crest and Colgate are displayed at eye level. My brand, Aquafresh, is mostly found on the bottom shelf.

Tim Horton's while technically not Canadian owned has soups in grocery stores.  The potato bacon is good, and I enjoy their chili.  I noticed that the Tim Hortons chili says both made in Canada and prepared in Canada on the label and that they use both domestic and imported ingredients. 

My family bought a summer home in Canada in the 1960s, and I eventually became a landed immigrant here when I married my Canadian wife in 1978.  My family had to have both Heinz and Aylmer ketchups on the table, since my brother and father preferred it.  This was long before Heinz threw a curve ball at the farmers by closing their Ontario operations.

We are this close to entering Freedom Fries and Freedom Toast territory.
There are a lot of folks out there with far too much time on their hands.

Usually I wasn't really aware what was a Canadian company or product in terms of food or even clothing and never went out of my way to buy Canadian products.  But thanks to Mr. Trump and his lack of respect for our country I am noticing now.  Does it mean I will avoid US products totally?  No, that would be hard to do and too time consuming.  However if I see a sign that indicates the product is made here or a Canadian manufacturer there is a much better chance I will purchase it than maybe two months ago, simply because I wasn't aware.  

And if Trump screws around with auto manufacturing in Ontario, and pressures GM, Ford and Stellantis to close plants here, there is not a hope in hell of me ever buying a US vehicle ever.  I don't think I would be the only one either.

In terms of travelling to the US?  No interest and the US has become too expensive anyway.

Like I said, I wouldn't be avoiding all US products since it would be hard to do and too time consuming.  You don't need to go all in to make a point or to have an effect.  Later this year I am going on a trip to Newfoundland and St. Pierre with a group of highschool friends.  Last year we went to Alberta and others in the group also were in BC and Western Arctic.  Travelling to the US is not on our radar for the foreseeable future.

I haven't been to the US in over ten years. It lost it's appeal for me.

The Globe and Mail article is fantastic and shows how small changes can add up quickly and make a big difference.  I really like the fact it is the average Canadian leading the movement to buy Canadian when it makes sense and possible.  I subscribe to the Globe on line, I have never read so many comments after an article that are almost all in agreement.

I agree that CBC's ratings for this particular news story have increased significantly because it is an important story for Canadians. However, I think you find that most viewers will continue to reject the majority of regular programming offered by the CBC English Network.

I agree that CBC prime time will never be dominate in the ratings.  But they actually have a few good shows right now and I wish we could see how they are doing.  And none of their programs have simsub.

CTV must be not very happy with Suits LA, lots of hype and promo for this one but only 178,000 viewers and with the simulcast.  Global/CBS Equalizer also weak for an established show coming in Sunday evening with only 377,000 watching.

There were a few that did better like Tracker with 772,000 fans which isn't great but considered good by today's standards. 

It's not just CBC programming that is being rejected by viewers. 

As irrelevant as all this 'may' seem to this site's raison d'être, this entire tRump attack on Canada is an existential threat to our collective future and well being.

Everything we're accustomed to, ***including radio and TV***, is in serious danger from a madman who has America tied up in knots. What a nightmare.
