I hate getting political here and I fear the reaction to this thread. But this is such an unusual situation, I'll make an exception. On Friday afternoon, a new music video from a brand new artist is going to debut on YouTube. It's called "Til The Night's Done."
The question: will radio stations play it if it's good or will the family's notoriety mean he already has two strikes against him?
The artist's name: Xavier Trudeau. Yes, THAT Trudeau, the son of the outgoing Prime Minister of the country and a polarizing figure who isn't exactly at the top of the popularity scale with many right now.
The son, who goes by name "Xav," is definitely going to get a bonanza of publicity simply because of his last name and family ties. Whatever you think of papa, you have to admit you're curious to hear it. But after the initial novelty wears off, and depending on how good or bad the song is, will it hurt him or help him to get airplay? Politics, it seems, invades everything.
The single is being released at precisely 4:30 PM on Friday afternoon via YouTube, so depending on when you're reading this, it may already be out. Having a famous father can be both a blessing and a curse. Regardless of the tune, Xav is about to find out which one applies to him.
Justin Trudeau's son Xavier, forays into music with debut R&B single

Well, I watched it and I'll be kind and say any music video in English that relies on subtitles to understand the lyrics doesn't get you off to a very good start. The comments section on YouTube is, predictably, insane already!

When this all goes downhill, remember who posted it. 😉

I'm like those people on the Pearson Delta jet - bracing for impact!
It's just such an odd situation, having the son of an unpopular former Prime Minister try to go into show biz. Right Ben Mulroney?

""What you know about me, I ain't like him," young Trudeau sings."
Seems to be a popular refrain these days.

Interesting he didn't sign up with a major label but rather chose a small independent Ottawa based label. He co-wrote the tune, so points for that.
But the song and "Xav" sounds more or less the same as many other male singers heard on the radio. Til The Nights Done isn't a bad song or poorly recorded, but nothing sets it apart from 100's of other dreamy R&B songs. Well, I guess one thing sets it apart.
One Trudeau ending a career...and another begins... Apparently there is already a parody version circulating on the net. And Xav has other songs ready that will be released in the weeks ahead.
I wish him luck..

Belinda Stronach’s son is also a musician and a couple of his songs see fairly frequent airplay on stations like CHFI. Of course, he doesn’t share her last name, so people probably don’t know who his mother is. His name is Frank Walker.

Here in Canada, some Gen Z's might think they are listening to a Drake wannabe.
For that reason alone (and there is more than enough room for me to be wrong)
the song might already fail before we even talk about who the artist is...

I'm hoping his next one is a duet with Barron Trump.

As P1 pointed out, there is nothing outstanding about this tune. There are hundreds of others that are similar. I wonder if it will get any U.S. airplay and maybe reach the close to the bottom of the Hot 100.

Listening to that thing is bad enough, but viewing it should come with a dose of Gravol.
