70 Years Of CHCH Tonight At 7pm

I am not sure if this is a repeat or new. Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow is on in a few minutes on CHCH, celebrating the stations 70th Birthday.  I didn't see any promo for this show.  Maybe something to record.

Yes it is a repeat, but still worth a watch or record if you missed it the first time.

I stumbled across this by accident. I found it very interesting. Hosted by Brian Wood. I don't normally watch CHCH News so the only people I recognized were Dan McClean, Connie Smith and Annette Hamm. Fascinating hearing the stories of how technology has changed the presentation over the years.

Apparently there is a part 2 on line.

It's not a repeat. They have been promoting it all week on the Evening News. Part 1 was tonight, and I believe part 2 is next Sunday.

The panel was recorded months ago, but the actual show is new.

Damn, just seeing this, would have enjoyed watching it as I bet it featured some great vintage footage! Will try and catch part two.

For all those who missed it, it's been posted to YouTube, where you can watch it for free. I'm assuming they'll do the same for part two.

Re: 70 Years Of CHCH Tonight At 7pm

I just finished watching this special, and while it won't be for everyone (a bunch of news people sitting around talking about their experiences producing the nightly and morning shows for the station) I found it entertaining.

But there's one aspect of the show that's very sad. It was recorded on May 23, 2024 and features a Q&A with Chantal Grillo, a long time director at the station. who had worked there for almost two decades. On October 4th of that year, just a few months after this special was shot, Grillo died unexpectedly while at work, not long before that night's newscast was scheduled to go to air.

With the entire staff understandably grief-stricken, they cancelled the 6 PM news that evening.

She's in the special and talks about the chaos that can ensure when you're the person in charge of making sure the live show goes to air as scheduled, with all the camera angles accounted for, the reporters in place and the right story airing at the right time. It's nice that she was able to take part in the 70 year celebration, but sad to think she never lived to see it go to air.
