This Week's Billboard Hot 100: Chuck Berry, Brenda Lee & Frank Sinatra

In an era of Beyonce, Gracie Abrams, Drake and Teddy Swims, there are some names in the Dec. 21, 2024 edition of the Billboard Hot 100 that don't look like they really belong.

While Mariah Carey is unsurprisingly back at #1 with her perennial "All I Want For Christmas," there are other eye-opening artists you'd never expect to find in a modern-day Billboard Top 100. Brenda Lee is #2, with the 1958 classic "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree."

Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock," goes back even farther, to 1957, and shows up at #3. Next is that household name for modern audiences, Burl Ives. Andy Williams comes in at #7. And farther down the list, Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad" finds itself at #16 for the week. My favourite anomaly, though, is the #21 disc - "Run Rudolph Run" by the great Chuck Berry. When was the last time he made Billboard's Top 30?

And there's more - Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and even Perry Como all show up in various spots.

It's all the result of Christmas plays and streams of course, and the chart will go back to normal by the end of the holidays. But man, that's one eclectic list I'd love to hear Casey Kasem countdown on American Top 40!

Check out the chart here.

740 Zoomer has the most electic and interesting mix of Christmas music.  And they don't go heavy to 100% until after 6pm Dec 23rd.

Bob Seeger with Little Drummer Boy, Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town by Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme, Cool Yule and Colin James, Santa Claus Is Definitely Here To Stay and James Brown, The First Noel by Nat King Cole, That Holiday Feeling with our pet Juliette, and the classic and rarely heard Same Ol Lang Syn with the great Dan Fogelberg.  Doesn't get much better...And they also ran all the Christmas hits that are overplayed on  the other stations...

I agree with paterson1 that AM740 has the best mix of Christmas music, however I didn’t hear “Santa Claus go Straight to the Ghetto” by James Brown this year, which I only discovered a few years back and it stuck with me, unusual festive tune! I tuned into Radio One for a bit Christmas night and they played a decent selection as well, stuff not heard everywhere this time of year.

I heard Snoopy's Christmas by the Royal Guardsmen this year.

Back when they were real radio stations CKOT and CFCA FM played a very nice selection of Christmas music. As mentioned above neither went 100% until December 23.

Never knew how good we had it. I wish I would have rolled some tape back then.
