The Simpsons To Take Centre Stage On Monday Night Football

Last year, the NFL tried an experiment using characters from Toy Story to present an NFL game aimed at kids. It was a big hit so this year, they're doing it again. And "¡Ay, caramba!" The Pixar classic characters will be replaced by far more familiar ones - The Simpsons.

Don't have a cow man, but the voice cast from the longest running comedy on TV (now almost 40 years) will take part in this latest experiment, and will even feature some original scripted material from the program's veteran writers, kind of an amalgam between the game and the show.

It happens on December 9th during the Bengals-Cowboys tilt. While it will be on several streaming services in the U.S., the article below indicates it will also be seen on TSN in Canada, as well as stations around the world.

The plot, if you can call it that:

"Homer, aligned with the Cowboys, and Bart with the Bengals will rally their supporters who will join them on their respective sidelines throughout the matchup. Lisa, Krusty, Nelson, Milhouse and Ralph will be with Bart; while Carl, Barney, Lenny and Moe will be with Homer."

Another interesting experiment to attract younger crowds and - in this case - even an older demo. I'm not a football fan, but I have to admit I'm curious and will try to find a way to tune this in. And you may not need cable. According to the producers, it will be put up on "video on demand" 12 hours after the broadcast ends.

ESPN was wise to choose a Cowboy game to do this. NFL games involving Dallas are almost always the most viewed. "A" Because of the team's large fan base and "B" All the folks who loath the team and will tune in to hopefully watch them lose. A win/win for ESPN.
