106.1 Guelph

Is Magic 106 off the air or running on low power?  I don't hear it while tuning around the dial today in Toronto.

Re: 106.1 Guelph

To me in the Kawarthas, at least, it has seemed weaker than usual for a few weeks, at least. I have chosen 106.1 as one of my emptier channels for Perseid meteor scatter recording and have had a station from North Carolina among others. More routinely, CHEZ Ottawa and WTZM Tawas City MI (The Point) have been dominant with CIMJ (Magic) easy to null using even a rudimentary dipole antenna. And signals have been massive from the GTA through K/W and Buffalo this morning. I had Markham 105.9 CFMS (The Region) clobbering Orillia CICX (Pure Country).

Re: 106.1 Guelph

Magic seems to have been running on low power for a few weeks now.  Last week for a couple of days, I thought they were back to normal, but again this week back to a weaker signal.  Bounce in Kitchener at 99.5 has been having some issues with their signal as well recently.

Has there been any DXing activity going on? Maybe that is the cause of the 2 radio stations that broadcast at lower power.

Not when it's been consistent for weeks like that.

Re: 106.1 Guelph

Magic 106.1 is definitely on the air. It is one of my pre-sets on my radio so I listen to it off and on during the early morning. I live I Guelph so reception is not an issue except for one morning recently when it was unlistenable. There is sound distortion on the morning show when the two hosts are speaking. It made me wonder if they were broadcasting from their homes. I also live close to their building and have often wondered if there was anyone in the building as there were never any vehicles in the area of the parking lot that is visible from the street. However, recently their have been vehicles around and this morning quite a few.

Re: 106.1 Guelph

That property is clearly worth more than the business.

I used to pick up it up quite well in my area (Etobicoke/Mississauga border) but now it's just barely there, even in the car.

The great Scott Fybush, who takes a lot of his own pics of TV and radio transmission towers, is well aware of the NECRAT site. (Here's a sample of Fybush's tour of the Niagara Region area radio stations.) It offers a look at most of the big towers that let you listen to many of Toronto's AM stations. If you're into this, here's the page listing them all. Fascinating to see some of them up close.
