The Games are coming from Paris, but much of the announcing staff and co-ordination is based in a place you'd never expect - a giant broadcast centre in Stamford, Connecticut. A tour of the place shows it's an overwhelming beehive of activity that never stops. And how many monitors are in that control room anyway?
I'm sure the CBC's set-up is equally imposing.
A Look Behind The Olympics Coverage

Very impressive. Like you RA, still haven't watched any of it. However, I do have to confess, once or twice a week I look at the medal standings to see how Canada is doing. Last I checked, 11th place based on number of gold not total medals.

NBC is doing a good job on the Olympics whenever I have watched. Excellent production values and profiles of atheletes. Maybe they have a few too many profiles which can be a bit lengthy. Some viewers have been complaining about the commercial load which is heavy. Their host Mike Tirico is excellent and likeable to watch.
As usual CBC seems to be covering more of the actual games than NBC who have more profiles about Paris, interviews with atheletes and as mentioned background features. In terms of slickness and overall production NBC would get the gold in my opinion. But for many viewers that is secondary to the competition which CBC/TSN and Sportsnet do a great job covering.
Watched some of the rock climbing yesterday, that was a sport I had never taken a look at before and it was interesting. Also I didn't know that golf was in the Olympics this time.
Never understood why some people including some Americans complain about NBC focusing on US atheletes so much. Easy, they win the most and the US team or individual is usually in the running for a medal. Since Canada is not normally a medal winning machine, CBC has the luxury of covering other events and countries more since we are not always a big player in many events.
|One complaint I have of CBC (not TSN or Sportsnet who often have their own hosts) is that they have too many in studio commentators and too many people hosting at the same time. Seems they always have two or three commentators who are sort of competing with each other for air time and it gets a bit disjointed. Both TSN and Sportsnet are keeping it simpler when they are doing their own segments IMO.

That was just some clown trying to change it up a bit to somehow draw new attention
to the younger crowd. (or the older crowd that remembers the early 80's, lol)
Obviously it failed because Break dancing will not be returning any time soon.
It will not be a part of the 2028 Olympics.

Thanks for posting this. I've been in the NBC Sports Campus in Stanford. Our son is the Director, Media Management & Operations (Media as in Digital). It's quite the place.
