The Odd Reason Jerry Agar's Show Will Come From Ottawa Next Week

It's not that unusual for a Toronto-based show to originate somewhere else by a remote broadcast. But it's quite another thing when the reason is so odd.

CFRB's Jerry Agar confirmed in a chat with John Moore on Tuesday that his show will be originating from Ottawa next week. The reason? He needs to be there for a court appearance because he's being sued.

He didn't say who's suing him, what the issue is or whether it has anything to do with his radio show. But if you think he's grumpy now, just wait until next week!

Does anyone know what this case centres on? I'd be very curious to find out and there's no guarantee he'll explain it to listeners.

Perhaps from someone or group who is "Offended" by his Right Wing opinions and views?

I don't think having an opinion is grounds for a case tying up the courts. It must be something else.

Re: The Odd Reason Jerry Agar's Show Will Come From Ottawa Next Week

Shouldn't Jerry be mandated to be present in the courtroom for the proceedings? Is the judge a fan and granting recess so Jerry can go do his show?

I know the answer but is there nobody at 1010 that can cover Jerry's absence?

They didn't say it, but the implication was that the court date is scheduled for the afternoon, so he can do both his show and still attend the case. Why it's based in Ottawa is also curious, which makes me wonder if this radio related at all.

Wonder if he will have Bill Carroll on his show as a guest since he will be doing it from CFRA.

Re: The Odd Reason Jerry Agar's Show Will Come From Ottawa Next Week

TORONTO — One of Canada’s largest unions is suing Sun Media Corp. and Avi Benlolo, president and CEO of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies, for saying it supports terrorism. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is seeking $250,000 in damages for defamation from Sun Media’s parent company, Quebecor Media Inc., alleging it was smeared in a Sun News Network segment last summer. The July 24 segment, titled Hamas, CUPW Flags Fly on Parliament Hill, which featured host Jerry Agar and guest Benlolo, blasted CUPW members for taking part in a pro-Palestinian protest in Ottawa the day before. The broadcast said CUPW banners were flown near Hamas flags, and pointed out that Hamas is a banned terrorist organization in Canada.A statement of claim filed in Ottawa on behalf of the union said the broadcast made “many untrue, disparaging statements about CUPW and its members,” including that CUPW has often “lent [its] support to terrorist organizations,” and that it “has a history of partnering up with hate groups.”Agar and Benlolo “wrongfully state” that CUPW supports or partners with terrorist and hate groups, and Hamas in particular, the claim said.

Thanks for the reminder. So the case is against Sun Media. Can Agar be held liable for those statements or would Sun have to pay if they're found guilty?

Re: The Odd Reason Jerry Agar's Show Will Come From Ottawa Next Week

Presumably the Sun would have to report on the outcome of the case.  I also assume if found liable Agar will not pay any damages personally, but he and Benlolo are named in the defamation suit.
The Sun TV interview was when Agar used to fill in for the much sued alleged sociopath Ezra Levant who now heads up the unabashedly racist internet site Rebel News.

Re: The Odd Reason Jerry Agar's Show Will Come From Ottawa Next Week

Just to correct this post, it turns out it's next week that Agar is in Ottawa as part of the lawsuit.

He confirmed on Wednesday that it was over something that happened "decades" ago, and he wondered how good his memory will be after all this time. I guess he - and we - will find out, although it remains to be seen if he'll actually talk about it on air.
