A Weird Meta Moment On Toronto's Two Big Talk Stations

What a strange meta moment on CFIQ and CFRB Friday morning.

It was just past 7:30 AM.

On NT1010, John Tory was on his final day filling in for the vacationing John Moore.

Meanwhile, over on AM640's "Think Tank," a daily morning panel discussion was underway with guests Ben Mulroney and Corus weekend host Roy Green. What were they talking about? Whether scandal tainted John Tory could ever run for elected office again in Toronto and the affair that ended his political career.

In the next hour, Greg Brady took phone calls about whether Toronto residents can forgive Tory for what he did and the chaos his departure caused.

So on one station you have the guests and callers talking about the scandal involving Tory.

At the exact same moment on its closest competitor, you had John Tory, back on air trying to put that entire nightmare behind him.

It was an odd coincidence and a very strange meta moment that could only happen on Toronto radio.

Odd coincidence or a bit of mischief by the competition? A bit unusual that two shows would bring up the John Tory scandal almost a year after the fact.

The fact that it's been exactly a year since that shocking Friday night announcement of his resignation was probably the real catalyst. But it's a bonus he's on against them.

First time I tuned out CFRB all week.  Will do next time Tory is on.
