I keep hearing this commercial on AM640 for a roofer who specializes in fixing leaks. Nothing unusual about that, except the guy makes clear that he only works in the Hamilton area. What I'm not clear on is why he's chosen to advertise on a Toronto radio station.
True, the signal reaches the Steel City, but how many people in the Hammer actually tune in 640? (In fact, the latest ratings, such as we have them, indicate not that many in Toronto are listening, either.) Maybe it runs there, too, but wouldn't this spot be better on CHML? Not sure why you'd pay to advertise a service no one in Toronto can use.

My guess would be bought Y108/CHML, got bonused 640.

^That is quite likely...given the regional programming shared between the two stations, they could share bonus spots as well. Gotta fill the logs with something, might as well be fresh commercial content lol.
As for the out-of-market-buying angle...Hamilton is a big commuter market so it makes sense from that perspective. I don't think that's what's happening here though.
Traditionally, it makes much more sense to buy time on a Hamilton outlet that bleeds into Toronto for the cheaper rate, not the other way around.
