It was on this date in 1961 that the CTV network was formed. Originally called CTN, (Canadian Television Network) the new CTV attracted 7 more affiliates on October 1st. Six of the stations were new and briefly independent like CFTO and CJOH and two others, CHCH Hamilton and CFRN Edmonton had disaffiliated the day before on Sept 30th from CBC. CHCH surprised everyone and became Canada's first permanent independent television station, and never joined CTV. CFCN Calgary became an affiliated station a few days later on October 8th.
Affiliates that joined CTV Oct 1 1961
CFTO Toronto
CHAN Vancouver
CFCF Montreal
CJCH Halifax
CJAY Winnipeg
CJOH Ottawa
CFRN Edmonton
Logo above was the original for the network and used from 1961 until summer/fall of 1966.

I don't remember that logo at all. Only the square, circle. triangle that is still in use today.

From YouTube here are the CTV logos from 1961 to 2003. There is some duplication and the audio levels are a little erratic. Even a few from some CTV affiliates..

The majority of those CTV logos can be viewed at logopedia. All the other networks too.
