Classic 1220 CFAJ to launch Mon Sep 11

It’s been one of the longest test periods in radio history - maybe the longest!     Classic 1220 in St. Catharines/Niagara will finally be launching with announcers this coming Monday September 11.

I know "classic hits" is a format and "classic rock" is a genre but calling a station Classical 1280 is going to make people think it's a classical music station. Of course, if they've already made the bad decision of launching a music station on the AM band why not give your station a confusing name to boot?

It’s actually Classic 1220 not Classical.    They appear to play a wide mix of oldies, not just a consultant’s top 300 oldies like other markets.

So it is. I guess no one will confuse it with classical then.

NOPE.
I hope the station can survive. I wish it all the best, but
I have not forgotten the very fact that the weekend for the former 1220 CHSC made more money than the week when they were airing Radio Uno week-ends. (legal or not)

Curious question.  I scanned through the dial in my to see what was still receivable in Burlington.  During Saturday morning, I heard Sauga 960 content on 1220?  Is there an ownership relationship of any sort here?

Any idea what the show you heard was?

Re: Classic 1220 CFAJ to launch Mon Sep 11

It was something sports related.  I first though it was odd when I tuned in and spots were playing (apparently something that has been absent from 1220).  Then I heard a promo for Lex Tan's WWE wrestling show,  Then back to the show.  I couldn't pull in 960 to compare, and and I had to get out of the car since I was at my destination.

I'll be grabbing a coffee this morning, so I'll check again.

The solons at Sauga 960 don't list their weekend programming on the schedule portion of their website, which makes no sense. It's not updated, either, since it still lists Raw Mike Richards as doing the AM drive and that was two morning shows ago.

So it's hard to know, but my best guess is a lot of programs on Sauga are "paid time," so it's entirely possible whoever was doing the program you heard bought time on 1220, as well.

I can't imagine an hour on either station is terribly expensive.

The Greg Carrasco Show appears to be on both Sauga 960 as well as Classic 1220.
Classic 1220's site says Carrasco's show airs Saturdays at 8:00 a.m., which is the same time it airs on 960 so it's presumably the same program on both stations.

That's great, now how can they do things cheaper?

Carrasco says during his show he is on both stations, and world wide via the internet. I do put him on if I remember about it on Saturday mornings while I am surfing the web. Greg is actually a decent guy, I have met him and found him to be a genuine person.

Another show that appears on both is something called "Spill The Tea." Everything is paid air time and I'm guessing neither station charges a lot for an hour. So it would not be a surprise if more and more of these duplicates show up on both stations.
