Today Bell Media Announced Advertising Pause On Facebook/Instagram

https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/media-statement-advertising-pause-on-facebook-and-instagram-884620062.html?s=09

sidebar: to anyone thinking of signing up for the hot new social media sensation Threads, once you have a Threads account the only way to delete it is to also delete your Instagram account, for obvious reasons the motherzuckers who built and operate Threads don't want users to think too much about the Terms and Conditions.

Threads is the Hotel California of anti social media.

The Toronto Star has also followed sut and will no longer be advertising on anything Meta.

Toronto Star owner pausing ads on Facebook, Instagram over Meta’s vows to block news

Still, there is a bit of hypocrisy here, because the Star remains on Facebook with its own news page.

And for more hypocrisy, some of those ad dollars were actually payments to boost the visibility of news links.

Not only that, the federal government's huge announcement on Thursday that they were pulling all their ads from Meta products was somewhat lessened by the fact the Federal Liberal Party itself will still advertise on Facebook and won't be pulling any of those ads.

Have all the do-gooders seen this?

What sort of defense will they offer up?

If all of the other major federal political parties are continuing to spend money on FB/IG, does it make sense for the Liberals to put themselves at a disadvantage compared to their opponents? Not according to any rational reading of the situation.

Also, the Government of Canada spends taxpayers' money when it advertises on social media. That money will no longer be spent on FB/IG. As someone who likely bitches at every nickel spent by Ottawa on social, economic and healthcare benefits, Fester should be supportive of a reduction in spending.  Political parties spend money that is provided by donors, who voluntarily fork over their cash to parties they support. If donors disagree with advertising choices made by their respective parties, they can make their feelings known or simply stop donating.

Yup, I'm a do-gooder Fester. And I've got some advice for you - do better.

Re: Today Bell Media Announced Advertising Pause On Facebook/Instagram

Surely no one believes that the Liberal Party must do everything that Canada's Government decides to do. Had the party chosen to mirror the government's position, no doubt the breathless claim would have been, "See, Trudeau's a dictator. He's even making the party stop advertising!"

Me a do-gooder? Why, thank you for the generous compliment. Perhaps others prefer do-badders; there is certainly no shortage of those. Consider this - a little less Toronto Sun and a little deeper review of issues and opinion are called for. The Sun's constant 'Trudeau is acting like a dictator' simply reveals their pandering to a narrowly-informed audience. The Sun has to drag someone down to keep the fire lit under their ever-diminishing audience.

Mark me down, with BowmanvilleBob, as a do-gooder. In the age of tRump, there appear to be precious few willing to choose good. And, if nothing else, mark tRump down as a master-manipulator of easily-led angry people whose negative-influence has spread too far and too wide.

The Sun spent its first 13 years claiming that Trudeau is a dictator so they've just returned to form

Re: Today Bell Media Announced Advertising Pause On Facebook/Instagram

This reminds me of last year when Musk unsuccessfully tried to shame companies that stopped advertising on Twitter. (Hypocritical as Tesla doesn't buy advertising).

In any case if Google is punishing Canadians by manipulating their search engine to exclude Canadian websites there's no reason for Canadians to spend their ad dollars on Google.

Corus has now joined the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ad boycott. Probably more symbolic than anything, since it's a drop in the bucket to Mark Zuckerberg and company.

Corus Entertainment latest media company to suspend advertising with Meta
