I don't think I've read what you've read but I've worked for smaller broadcasters and I've worked for some of the big three. I have experience dealing with them all. 

The problem with most of them is that they simply don't know how to manage their people. There's too much red tape in the bigger, more progressive companies and a lot of dead wood in the smaller companies. Big companies have cut their staff down to nothing and provide no direction on what to do when there's only one or two people left in their medium and small market stations. 

Broadcasting, while super fun, overall is a terrible industry. I'll bet most of us have gone through long periods where we've felt undervalued and not appreciated. It's the only place I've worked where people are afraid to let their employees shine and tap into that.
