Re: What TV Shows Did You Like as a Kid?

Interesting. Why do some of the guides have WGR on channels 2 and 6?

Re: What TV Shows Did You Like as a Kid?

They had a repeater of their signal for many years on Channel 6 in Jamestown.

According to a Wikipedia entry:

"During the 1960s, WGR-TV also operated a repeater station on VHF Channel 6 in Jamestown, New York. The repeater on Channel 6 continued until the Channel 2 transmitter was moved from Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo to the South Wales transmitter site, which greatly improved signal coverage into the population center of the mountainous Chautauqua region south of Buffalo."

The ch 6 was a repeater transmitter in Jamestown. When the transmitter site was moved to South Wales, ch 6 was shut down.

The Channel 6 repeater was kind of like an afterthought for the station. You can see it took no prominence at all in ads from that era, appearing only in the small print.

Did it cause interference with CBLT in the Niagara Region when they were also on channel 6?

Re: What TV Shows Did You Like as a Kid?

I believe it was very low power and you really couldn't get it here. I remember receiving it only once, and that was after CBLT signed off for the night, which stations used to do in those days. Otherwise I'm thinking it was more likely the higher powered CBLT caused trouble for Jamestown than vice versa

It's surprising that there's been so little attention paid in the media or generally to the fact that a children's entertainer who was ubiquitous on TVO in the 70s on shows like Polka Dot Door and Cucumber as well as a regular on Uncle Bobby was a convicted pedophile - whose 1974(!) conviction didn't interrupt his career in children's television!
