New Cell Phone Player Offering Service For As Low As $14 A Month

It's called "Fizz" and the devil's in the details, because $14 is the very most basic plan. Still, would this be enough to make you switch to someone new?

Canadian wireless provider's expansion offers mobile plans starting at just $14

I do not trust these cheap providers to be around long.
Every time one crops up, they get bought out by the big guns who cynically put them out of existence.

This one is from Quebecor, so it may be on a more solid financial background.

I've been with Chatr since they were Mobilicity and have had no complaints about service. (knocks on wood) Although the wifi I use is with Bell. (the cynics tech version of CYA)

Mobolicity used to be around when Chatr was also around. They weren't with Rogers until Rogers bought them and shut Mobilicity down, merging it with Chatr.

And guess who's joined the phone fray now? Yep, it's everyone's favourite grocer, Loblaws, introducing a new No Frills (get it?) phone plan. BlogTO outlines how much it will cost you to get onboard. What I want to know is will it work if you go into a Sobey's?

No Frills is with PC Mobile, which rents Bell towers. May as well be a Bell company...

Not at all. PC Mobile is an MVNO; Bell has no choice but to sell them access at wholesale rates. The big 3 had been fighting against MVNO's for a long time.

Why Bell??  Why not someone else.

The new service offering from Loblaw / No Frills will be limited to 4G only.

And no "roaming" service if you travel outside Canada.

Still, a good option

That is interesting, and worth considering.

I know people who have a SIM from an American carrier which allows them to park or pause their use when they are not stateside. When they are in the US and activate/use their SIM, they say that it is way way cheaper than paying the daily roaming rates/fees to their Canadian carrier.

Why Bell??  Why not someone else.

If I'm entering the MVNO market and the wholesale rates are equal, I'm going with Bell. They easily do the most marketing of their network, so you get to piggyback on that for free.

It is, but you lose your number while there. Yes, you can forward calls, but texts are trickier.
