A long-time pet peeve.  The other day I heard one of the 'panel' windbags actually say "It's like, ya know, like, I don't know, ya know?  Such quality commentary.

Like, whaddaya mean?
Is that sorta like, y'know, a thing?
In addition to this my long standing pet peeve is the strange new accent that has made its way into Canada.
Younger people have adopted substituting the short vowel sound and turning them into a sort of hybrid pronunciation that sounds a bit like an upstate New York, or even a Boston accent.
An example would be an ad running lately for a lottery where the female announcer talks about the "jack paaht" instead of jack pot.
There are announcer of CFRB that refer to "Newstaahk tan tan."
Another anomaly is the tendency to elide, or skip over some consonants.
There's a Newstalk 1010 traffic announcer who keeps referring to a "stawd veekle" on the highway.
Although I guess Peter Griffin from Family Guy would exclaim, "Hoo da haahl keeehs?"

Can't forget those people who butcher names like Strachan, Roncesvalles, Balliol etc.

"Eggleton" !! That's a new one on me. I'm used to but still hate 'Egg Ling Ton'.

I had a friend from Montreal who pronounced Roncesvalles, 'Ronska Valleys'.

I didn't correct him. I adopted the pronunciation.
