Stormin' Norman Rumack & Jim Richards On The Early Fan 590 Days

I'm not the biggest Jim Richards fan and I rarely if ever listened to Norman Rumack when he was doing overnights on The Fan 590. But they both did a show together called Richards & Rumack that some here may remember.

On his "Newstalk Tonight" show Monday, Richards brought Rumack back and in a very lengthy (three segments) and interesting interview, the pair went over in great detail what the early days at Canada's first all sports station was like, featuring tribute comments from others who were there, like George Stroumboulopoulos, Elliote Friedman and Sid Seixeiro, now host of CityTV Toronto's Breakfast Television.

The first segment is the best - it pulls no punches in referring to other radio stations and call letters, something you rarely hear on a competitor. If you recall those early days, it will definitely bring back memories.

But it gets more serious in later sections, as Rumack recalls how his career gradually dissolved and he attempted suicide three times, leading to him working as a security guard and finally a stay in a psychiatric hospital. It's long, but if you were a Fan fan or enjoyed Rumack's on air antics, it will hold your interest.

The Rumack section starts at around 20:30 on the podcast and continues on the next segment.
