The Southern Ontario/WNY Radio-TV Forum / Is This Kingston Radio Station An Actual Radio Station?

I read this article in the Kingston Whig-Standard and frankly, I'm confused. The guy they interviewed says he listened to the test signal on FM in his car. But I see nothing about call letters or an actual licence. Anyone in that area know what this is about?

OK, so a little more research indicates it's CJAI, is located on Amherst Island, and broadcasts at 4,800 watts on 101.3 FM. It's a community station and survives on volunteers and donations. Funny how in all the years we've been watching jobs and media disappear in Kingston, this place has never really come up.

Their format/playlist sounds much like that of KOZT "The Coast" Fort Bragg, Ca. Limited mainstream fare.

I try to have a listen whenever I'm on the 401, heading to Ottawa to visit relatives. As their website mentions, an eclectic mix.

On the way back home, it's usually 680, to keep an ear on traffic conditions around Toronto.

One of the co-founders of CJAI was former Global TV anchor Peter Trueman, who retired to Amherst Island after leaving the network back in the late 1980s. He read the morning news on the station for several years.

I actually heard this once in North Kawartha on 101.3. It faded in and got a beautiful Island Radio 101.3 FM ID and blues. I was taping the channel for e-skip one summer (June 27, 2022). It took awhile to remember that CJAI had moved to 101.3 (from 92.1, I think) and that it wasn't skip.
