Does CTV News Toronto Know They're Running This Ad?

I rarely get to see TV commercials these days thanks to DVR-ing everything, but I turned on CFTO just before the 6PM news Monday and they were running a spot for Seneca College. The campaign showed happy graduates working at their jobs and becoming successful, presumably thanks to their training at the college.

Nothing wrong with that, until one of those shots stopped me in my tracks. In fact, I had to go back and look at it again to be sure I saw what I thought I'd seen on the screen. It was a clear shot of Seneca graduate Colin D'Mello holding a mic with a Global News flash around it, reporting on a story outside of Queen's Park.

It happened on one of CFTO's afternoon newscasts.

Oops! Talk about subliminal advertising!

Bell DID make an offer to buy Corus, but that's no excuse, especially when it's Quebecor currently dictating that they have the best offer.

Didn't Colin D'Mello take over for Paul Bliss who was fired from CTV Toronto in 2015? I do remember Colin was the weekend anchor along with Andrea Case before taking the Queens Park role after Paul Bilss was fired.

This ad has been running on CTV, Global and CBC for several months now. If the choice for Bellmedia is to give a former employee and now competitor a few seconds of exposure in order to reap some more of that sweet advertising dough, I think we all know the outcome of any decision made by the suits at Bellmedia will be.

Of course they'll accept the money. You could probably put Anthony Farnell in there promoting a weather service and they'd easily take the bucks. As you noted, this IS Bell, after all.

But it is ironic that it's running on CTV of all places, because D'Mello used to be their Queen's Park Bureau chief for 4 years between 2018 and 2022 even longer than he's occupied the same position at Global.

TV news makes strange bedfellows.

It's a Seneca College ad - they've used graduates such as  Melissa Grelo and Patricia Jaggernauth in past commercials and I'm sure those ran on competing outlets.

As has been mentioned in the "too much news" thread, this is one of those things only "us media types" notice.
