Any time I've listened to Escape in the past, I've always been a little disappointed. Unknown orchestras playing bland arrangements of what would otherwise be good music. But I've been tuning in to it over the past few days and noticing improvement.

Henry Mancini, Mantovani, Nelson Riddle, Jacky Gleason - - -

Similar to 94.9, 95.3, 98.1, 105.3, 105.7 and 106.1 from the 60's/70's?

Similar to, but not as good. Back in  those years I was living in a part of Ontario where there was no local FM. But sometimes I could get reception from 95.3 and 105.3. They were good. Whereas I might have ranked CKDS as a 10 and CFCA at an 8, the original Escape, I  might have scored at a 3 and the current iteration as a 5.

It just isn't as lush and rich sounding as were those once great radio stations. Their play lists weren't all orchestral they also included some vocals. And perhaps the on air personalities added another dimmension.

And maybe my old ears are no longer as capable of discerning audio quality as they once were.
