In a recent thread, I praised a new series of radio commercials.
It's the campaign that pays tribute to its 40-year long, "It was a rainy day in Pizzaville" spots. The latest one contains a reference to the guy who's been providing the voice for the past four decades. This one asks listeners, "Who is that guy?"
He lists a few possibilities, including Nicolas Cage, and then asks, "Or is he the guy who played Babu in Seinfeld?"
That last one had me laughing out loud, because it is, indeed, that guy from the Pakistani restaurant in Seinfeld. ("You're a bad man Jerry! Very, very bad!") Brian George played the owner of the unsuccessful eatery and also the "It was a rainy day" guy.
I'm guessing most people will miss this little nugget, having never heard of Mr. George. But it was a great moment in the commercial and what a refreshing difference to hear a 30 sec. message that doesn't insult your intelligence and brings a smile to your face.
