For years he was one of CTV Toronto’s most prominent weather personalities. Then came Bell and its massive cuts, letting him go after 16 years at CFTO. Lately, he’s been on the Weather Network and CBC News Network. But now he has another new gig. He just started working for the Ontario government.

According to his LinkedIn page:

“I’ve joined the exceptional team at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, also known as Queen’s Park, as reporter and producer. I’m working on some fascinating stories and exciting projects, including a first-of-its-kind digital production in the history of this iconic institution.”

It’s not immediately clear when he’ll make his on-screen debut – or how many will actually be watching the channel, which does not have a traditionally large audience.

Congrats to him. If I may brag a little, my daughter graduated law school from U of T this summer with honors, and is now working at Queens Park as a legal researcher in her next step to articling and being called to the bar.

He was caught in a Toy Mountain avalanche.  His remains have yet to be recovered.

Still miss Dave Devall and other weather presenters I'd see on CFTO as a kid in the '90s, notably Steve Jacobs. Liked Anwar during his first go round at The Weather Network, in the channel's Mississauga era.

How quaint those old non-computer weather maps look today!

Wow! That looks so futuristic compared to what Percy Saltzman and his chalk had available.

In Vancouver we had the aptly named Bob Fortune as our first TV weatherman.  He did it all with a chalk board, drawn by hand.  Every Halloween he figured out a way to make his highs and lows into connecting lines that would end up looking like a pumpkin or a witch or a ghost etc.  Very clever.
He also dabbled in Chinese calligraphy for some reason.

Before becoming a weather person, Anwar Knight was on Hamilton's Energy Radio, which is where I first heard him. He and Larry Silver (formerly of CFTR) teamed to do the morning show.

As far as weather people, the all time best was CBC's Percy Saltzman and his big piece of chalk.
