I was away recently for a week visiting some friends in Alberta.  We spent three days in Calgary and visited Studio Bell which is Canada's National Music Centre.  Very interactive and a lot going on.  The centre is part museum, concert hall, recording studios, and interactive where you can play a white baby grand piano, drums, and various other instruments.  You can even record yourself singing in a sound booth (sort of an amped up karaoke) and try your hand at mixing a dance track.  Give yourself about three hours to tour if you go.

It is mostly about the history of Canadian music in the museum, but does delve more international when talking about the history of recorded music.  Right now until January Studio Bell is featuring From Me To You-The Beatles In Canada 1964-1966.  Fantastic big display of the fab four's travels to Canada and their concerts.  Also some CHUM and other radio station Beatles memories.  Eaton's did a big promotion on the group in 1964, which is highlighted with "The Beatle Bedroom" and Eaton's advertisements on the promotion. Studio Bell credits CFRB and Ray Sonin as the first to play the Beatles in North America in 1962.
