Jeffrey Dvorkin @jdvorkin One of the greatest CBC radio documentary makers and foreign editor was Michael Finlay. He was the victim of a random attack on the streets of Toronto in mid-afternoon a week ago. Michael died in hospital tonight. His perp has not been apprehended.

Like Midland City, in the Chickenman radio series, crime is running rampant in Toronto as well, and it is much more violent here.

Not surprisingly, CBC has picked up this story and issued a full recap of the tragedy, a look back at the producer's accomplishments, and a pic of the alleged killer on its website.

It and the similar incident of the elderly woman being shoved and killed are really shocking and sad.

Try doing a Google search for Cropearedwolf (pretty distinct surname) and you'll see this suspect is no stranger to law enforcement and incarceration in the USA and here.    Mostly robberies but some other stuff too.   His arrest in Idaho was for a string of robberies in that state and California while there's one from Toronto years before where he was being sought for several jewellery store heists.    The name of that suspect is identical to Cropearedwolf's and his age matches as well.

Edit:

Looks like the Toronto Sun did the same research I did.

Came here expecting to hear about Michael Finley, basketball player for the Mavericks. I met him.

Ooops.

Heartbreaking story. That's Toronto these days. So glad I left.

I normally don’t post this type of comment but I can’t help but feel that a three years sentence for Michael Findlay’s death by a random attacker is pathetic. The perp will be out and randomly attacking people again before you know it. R.I.P. Mr. Findlay, you should still be strolling the Danforth.
