Is This Really Our Business? AM640's Ben Mulroney & Wife Are Separated

He gave no hint of it on the air, but there are reports the personal life of AM640 talk show host Ben Mulroney is in sad disarray.

Have to admit I thought twice before posting this, because really, is it any of our business? As long as his talk show runs smoothly on air, that's all we should really know or care about. But I feel sad for the family. And Jessica Mulroney has been under fire for some time for some of her actions.

I also question some of the research - the story calls Ben Mulroney a "podcaster," when he really should be referred to as a broadcaster whose on-air shows are later posted to the web.

I thought it was worth mentioning since he hosts a daily show on Toronto radio. Which is why it's here, but it did give me pause.

Perhaps I was wrong to put it up at all. But I figure it might become a bigger story given Mulroney's high profile in broadcasting and would end up here eventually.

I don't know them, but I wish the family well. As Neil Sedaka observed, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do.

Even if you're the son of a former Prime Minister.

Saw the article this morning and thought about bringing it here...as stated, Ben hosts a show on AM640.

https://ca.yahoo.com/style/meghan-markles-former-friend-jessica-091918070.html
What struck me about the article I linked above (and is far more interesting to me than digging through the personal muck of it all) - the angle is all about Markle and Jessica's relationship. It's a "former friend of Meghan's" that is getting divorced and not "radio host gets divorced". In fact, Ben barely gets mentioned at all, never mind a mention about his day job. Perhaps it would take a Toronto-centric journalist to add the radio angle.

Or it's an indicator that radio hosts are no longer household names.

I don't think there's anything wrong with writing about Ben Mulroney's marriage.
He's a significant public figure.
Also how can you not report on Justin Trudeau's date or dating of Katy Perry.
Justin's dad was in headlines for years for his string of apparent dalliances, Barbra Streisand, Leona Boyd etc.
Also his love child with close Liberal associate Deborah Coyne.
If anything Canadians are still quite restrained about writing about private lives of people in public prominence.
For instance not much is written about Sophie Trudeau.
She apparently left Justin for a guy who is a doctor, but media haven't said much about him.
If these were American figures the headlines would be teaming with stories every time they sneezed.

Interesting that it's an American news outlet, the New York Post''s Page Six, breaking the story, which is why the emphasis is on Jessica as former Meghan Markle best pal and not on ben. The co-writer Isabel Vincent is a Canadian who had previously reported for the National Post and the Globe are Mail.

The New York Post is a tabloid, and the reason it's a tabloid is that it is a particularly practical size to line bird cages. 🤨

And it's owned by Rupert Murdoch. That says a lot.

I agree Rupert Murdoch has a lot to answer for, especially the execrable Fox News. But he does own the Wall St. Journal, which just published an article implicating Trump in the Epstein affair, backed by several sources.

The pompous President immediately filed a lawsuit, which is how you know it's gotten under his orange skin.

It surprised me that Murdoch would allow the Journal to get away with it, but he did. So on that, at least, he's proven his loyalty isn't ironclad. And the two of them doing battle for big bucks is a good thing that hopefully will tear them apart.

I guess we're free to post about tv presenters failed second marriages or liposuction or any manner of private concern now.

Yes. We need news of National importance, such as how Madonna shaves her pubes, Martha Stewart drools during orgasm and ,of course, Willie Nelson's pedicure.

I'm looking forward to seeing Justin Trudeau and Ben Mulroney competing against each other on a future series of the Bachelorette.

Which just goes to show why you can't trust A.I.! Need more proof? Check out this thread.

Although I'm glad to see the late, lamented Craig Smith mentioned. He was a great guy.

I honestly think it's no one's business but given that the state of his marriage has gotten worldwide news coverage do you think Ben Mulroney will make a comment about it on his show or say nothing?

I'll be surprised if he refers to it. But I do recall in one of his first shows on AM640, he went on a bit of a rant about those who verbally attacked his wife and exploited the scandal surrounding her.

He showed intense loyalty to her and roundly condemned all the nasty comments that surrounded her leaving CTV. (He resigned from the network soon after.) It was a passionate defence, in which he said he'd never forgive those who made too big a deal out of what happened.

Apparently, things have changed between them and she may not have shown the same loyalty to him as he did to her. The whole episode is a real shame and my latest thoughts are that these things should probably be kept within the family. He did not address it all in his first comments on air Thursday morning.

Completely agree about Craig Smith, and also about A.I. Re the latter, I decided to try Googling "What is The Oldies Music Board?" and here's what their AI gave me:

"The Oldies Music Board" likely refers to a music forum or online community dedicated to classic or older music, often referred to as "oldies" or "ol' skool". These communities, like the one on Facebook, provide a space for music lovers to discuss, share, and rediscover music from past eras.

Moreover, the board I run -- which has been around for over six years, and which as far as I know is the only one that goes by that name -- is nowhere to be found among the top 20 results. On the other hand, the one on Facebook that is mentioned in the AI answer is called the "GOLDEN OLDIES: Music Forum". I've also never seen oldies music referred to as "ol' skool".

The only comment I have is that sometimes, if I want to pointlessly annoy myself, I go to Jessica Mulroney’s instagram account and look at her pants - which are always far too long, completely cover her shoes, and most likely drag on the ground and get dirty.

I did say it was pointless 😄

Some of the same people now saying 'leave Ben alone, it's a private matter' are the same a-holes that jumped all over Justin when he and Sophie split...including the little weasel Poilievre -

"This was not a fluke that the Conservatives rolled this out basically a week after Justin Trudeau announced the separation from his wife," said Nik Nanos, founder of polling company Nanos Research.

A talk radio personality would absolutely bring this piece of their personal life to air as it would drive connection with the audience. A talk radio host would not.

it seems that Ben, along with most every on-air person in this market, leans toward being the latter.

These guys all have staff publicists whose job it is to keep their names in the news. Just like the Royal couple living in the US who claim to want their privacy, but who issue press releases almost daily.
