Just announced within the last half hour. He was 76 and had been in ailing health for some time.
He last performed with his fellow Black Sabbath bandmates in Birmingham back around 5 July.
His passing occurred this morning (British time).

Does 'Never Say Die!' Count as can-con?

Expected but still sad. Absolute legend.

I don't believe so. Album was recorded at Sounds Interchange so maybe it could qualify under 'P' at most?

This is all over the news channels right now.  I remember when CTV ran The Osborne's TV series back in the early 2000's.  They ran the show unedited, swearing and all.  The Osbourne clan came across sort of like a real life Addams Family, with dad a likeable character.

Listening to KEXP now. It's solid Ozzy. Ozzy solo stuff and Ozzy-era Sabbath.

Ozzy the Prince of Darkness, was, under it all, a decent guy who had a dream.

Was he perfect? Hell no, but he was a good(ish) guy who hit it big, really big.

During his final concert, on July 5th, he sounded like he was on death's door...because he was.

Thanks for the lifelong show, Ozzy. There was only one Ozzy.

They're dropping like flies now, lads.

The Crazy Train has pulled into the station for the last time.

The Rolling Stone Obit.

The story of his biting the head of a bat inspired the meme below. (With thanks to Lorne's Oldies Board.)

RIP Ozzy Osbourne, one of a kind, style and substance in equal measure, thanks for the timeless rock and metal.
🕯️🎸

I'll be listening to Bark At the Moon, Crazy Train, all of them, including a fave, Laguna Sunrise, later tonight but this has to be the one I listen to first .

Never was a big Sabbath or Ozzie fan but he and the band are part of rock legend, and they lived their lives truthfully from what I can see.
Sex, drugs, booze, head banging music and no apologies.
But I guess in the end Ozzie bit off more than he could chew.

Ozzy was so much more than head banging music...

Such a wasted life. Seventy-six years and never had an honest job.

What was the real story behind this infamous incident?

That time Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off a bat

While I was not really a fan of Ozzy's music, [except Iron Man] his Television commercials were hilarious, particularly for Pepsi Twist where his kids turn into Donnie & Marie Osmond and he wakes up in bed with Florence Henderson and Samsung smart phones, which are much more intelligent than him.

I read a comment from Alice Cooper this morning. Among other things he said "A titanic boulder has crashed, but rock will roll on"

Did any Toronto or GTA-area stations go all Ozzy after the announcement of his death was made?

What Does Radio Do When a Legend Dies?

I wouldn't think so.  No Toronto area terrestrial radio station is really into heavy metal that much.  Maybe an hour or so highlighting Ozzy's and Black Sabbath best material, but go all in for a day or more?  Can't see it, unless maybe a college station.  Even then, Ozzy wouldn't be an artist that many college aged people would be listening to.  There could be a streamer in the GTA that specializes in metal, that would be the most likely.

Aside from the fact that Sabbath and Ozzy, whose output I enjoy, could be considered "not mainstream" musically, the other problem with "wall-to-wall" programming for Canadian radio...yep, you guessed it: CanCon.

Stingray's Steve Jones says it with much more authority than I ever could (mainly because he has far more cred than I do):

Well everyone agrees that cancon should evolve.  However Steve did a poor job in presenting his case.  If any classic rock station here wanted to go wall to wall Ozzy, nothing was stopping them.

I don't know how many classic rock stations in Canada would have done this anyway.  Other than KLOS in Los Angeles, how many US stations did the same thing?  And why would it matter anyway?  Ozzy, Sharon and the Osbourne family have a much deeper connection to LA having lived and worked there for over 20 years.  They were just in the process of selling their LA home and planned to move back to England.

What does wall to wall mean?  Two hours, six hours, 12 hours?  I can't see any stations here doing days on end of Ozzy if that is what Steve Jones was talking about. So, to me, he is trying to make an issue out of something that wouldn't have happened with or without cancon. Some would say he is just playing politics.  How many Stingray classic rock stations play Ozzy and Black Sabbath on a regular basis and other than 3 or 4 songs?

Sorry Steve, thumbs down from me...

Steve Jones sounds like a little biatch. Ozzy would have not suffered him well.

Other than the ratings hit for the rest of the week.

College students don't listen to college radio. It's the domain of older retired men.

Again, what does wall to wall mean?  A one hour special?  Two hours of Ozzy and Black Sabbath?  Six hours? Can't see why this would be a problem, unless you purposely want to make it one. Stingray classic rock stations could have even played three or four cuts per hour and some bio information on Ozzy and have been just as effective.

If that's true, no wonder students no longer want to fund college and university radio outlets with tuition money..

As I previously noted, KEXP (one of the more notable non-commercial American stations) went all-Ozzy shortly after the news hit. The next day they went Ozzy/Sabbath-adjacent, with covers and spinoffs. It was superb programming that I can't see any commercial station matching without bold leadership - even those free of the can-con 'shackles'.

That certainly was true when I was at CIUT back in late 90s...for lots of reasons, some of them a bit complicated. Though not just old retired men... generally politically inclined people for the spoken word content, serious music fans for the latter. A mix of all ages. But definitely not centreed around the campus crowd. But then many of these are billed as campus-community stations...so the mandate is both.

Wall-to-wall does not mean a few cuts per hour. It means a sustained block of 100%

That's a problem.
