I Finally Saw John Moore In An Acting Role

CFRB morning man John Moore often references how he has an ACTRA card and is frequently an extra or plays a small part in various movies or TV shows. But up until now, I’ve never caught him, in the – you should pardon the expression – act. Even though he always complains he never plays anything but a reporter on screen.

Earlier this week, I was at a friend’s house and we watched AMC’s newest comedy series called “Adults.” It’s kind of an updated version of “Friends” for the 2000’s, except it’s nowhere near as good and there's a ton of swearing. It’s shot in Toronto, a stand-in for New York City.

In the debut episode, one of the characters heads to her job at a TV station and goes on location to a story with a guy who turns out to be John Moore. And yes, he’s playing yet another TV reporter! He was quite good in the role, although he only had like two lines. But I would know that voice anywhere.

Unfortunately, it looks like the character in question was fired from the station, so that may be the end of her appearances there – and the final curtain call for Mr. Moore.

One day, I hope he actually lands a role with a meatier part. Say a TV news anchor!

He could play the lead role, if they ever make a Bio-Pic of the founder of Jiffy-App.

He was also the bank rep/manager in the Whole Nine Yards in 2000.

Cheers,

He also appeared as a newsman (really displaying his range lol) in one of the X-Men movies; "Days of Future Past" I think.

He was in a disaster film, I can't remember which one, where he played a TV news reporter who is reporting on a storm and he is hit by a flying sign and killed.
Again he had he about two lines.
Playing bit parts in movies might not make you a star but it is fun, cause you get to meet and mingle with everyone on a set,.
I did a couple of gigs like that.
Got to be an extra in a Power Rangers TV episode for instance.
A friend of mine had a real thrill years ago when he played a court bailiff in a movie shot in Toronto starring Sophia Loren.
His character got to hold a courtroom door open for her.

Speaking of acting, here's a very old "audition tape," if you will, for John Moore. I stumbled across this by accident on YouTube and it's only fair to warn you that it's over 12 years old.

It features the erstwhile CFRB morning show personality in various hosting roles to highlight his talents. Nothing truly embarrassing here, but I'm not sure this is what he would want submitted today.

If nothing else, he seems to have mellowed with time. But then who hasn't?

Speaking of old appearances, here's John Moore on TVO's The Agenda in 2019. In a long forgotten segment, he talks about being forced to take a month off due to his growing anxiety. A lot of inside information here about the workings of the morning show and how it took its toll on him - including how he often thought about walking out on his show in the middle of it.

This is six years old and I wonder if he still suffers from the same issues that almost cost him his job. I hope not. No one should go through what he describes in this ancient excerpt. It's old but still very interesting, especially if you listen to him every morning. This interview was done before his father passed away, a significant factor in his suffering at the time.

Also somewhat ironic to hear so many nice comments about then-CFRB Brand Director Mike Bendixen, who is now calling the shots at AM640, 1010's most direct competition.
