It comes from McGill University's CKUT FM and is completely centred on the medium - and not just AM and FM, but shortwave, too. It also goes well beyond North American airwaves to look at radio's influence in other countries. And of course, if this interests you, there are a ton of previous shows archived online.

It's actually been on since 1987, and it has gone from covering the local Montreal market to taking on Canada and the world.

"We also cover local stories and changes to radio station formats. We look at ratings of stations in Montreal and elsewhere across Canada. And there’s been a lot of talk recently of digital conversion. We have a story coming up about FM being turned off in Switzerland and DAB digital radio replacing it. It’s a pretty wide spectrum.”

You can listen to it/see it here.

Neato. I approve of this, and encourage others to to do the same.

A new series on the history of shortwave is now available free online. It comes from WNYC in New York City and takes a look not only at how broadcasting on that band began, but what it's become.

"In this cinematic and archive-rich series, we show how shortwave radio went from a propaganda tool for governments, to a propaganda tool for right-wing extremists and cults. We ask why some listeners, pirates, and broadcasters are getting back on this “dying” medium. And we reveal how a little-known battle playing out on the shortwaves right now — a battle between radio fanatics and Wall Street — may serve as a parable for what happens when we cede control of our public airwaves."

Not for everyone but if you were ever a fan of that side of the dial, it might be of interest.

You can listen to all the parts released so far here.
