The Southern Ontario/WNY Radio-TV Forum / 680 Takes Leafs Again, As The Fan Keeps The Jays

The farther the Leafs get into the playoffs, the more this is going too happen. Wednesday's night playoff game will be on 680 instead of 590. I honestly wasn't sure if they would do it this time, because the Jays are playing in L.A., which normally might mean a 10:30 PM start here. But the baseball match starts at 9:38 PM our time and there's no way the hockey game will be over by then.

I wonder how many more of these conflicts lay ahead, with the all-news format shunted to online only.

Given 680's success in the newswheel department, Leafs playoff games are probably the only valid reason to disrupt it from time to time.

I'd be interested in seeing the tuning numbers (on-air vs. online) for these broadcast windows.

The FAN's website still says they are carrying both games tonight... are you sure the leafs are on 680?

I specifically heard them refer to it at 7:30 AM on their newscast. The reporter said "you can hear the Leaf game here on 680, while for those looking for the news will find it on our live stream."

It was pretty definitive.

As noted, the problem may be that the Jays/L.A. game starts at 9:38 PM our time. Even with hockey facing off at 7 PM this time around, there's no way it will be over in time.

Could 590 be carrying the Leafs in a simulcast until the Jays start, telling listeners to tune down the dial? I would find that very surprising, but stranger things have happened.

Surprisingly, 590 is live and local tonight.

Don't know who'd be listening, but good for them I guess.
