Poilievre made a mistake trying to make CBC an issue early in the campaign, and his foolish and poorly thought out defunding of CBC English TV. At one point he said he would defund radio, but suddenly didn't talk about that anymore.
Also significant is the fact that he lost his seat in Carleton which is part of the Region of Ottawa. The Ottawa Region's biggest employer is the federal government and where the head office for CBC-Radio Canada is located.
Not a smart move to be campaigning to defund a major high profile and popular organization in and near your riding. With Canada's sovereignty, culture, even existence being attacked from our biggest trading partner, continuing to campaign against CBC was out of step.
CBC programming absolutely appalling? Not really, some is not that great, but public broadcasters like CBC will never have programming that will always mirror commercial broadcasters. They could and should be a bit more mainstream, however they do have shows that are reasonably popular with the public. CBC like all government funded broadcasters are always thought of as being too left wing, even radical.
