While the death of anyone, including the Pope, is a tragedy, I can't resist pointing this out.

One of those commenting on his passing is Toronto Archbishop Francis Leo.

Yes, Frank Leo.

My God, is there anything this guy isn't into?!

(Yes, I'm aware they're not the same person. But what a coincidence!)

Fitting and nice that Pope Francis was able to take part briefly in Easter Sunday ceremonies yesterday in Rome.

Now that it's time to elect a new pope, you can rest easy knowing if a new pontiff is not chosen in the time the cardinals have set, Cardinal Leo will buy the papacy for them.
So the cardinals can pray with confidence!

Maybe my attitude has something to do with the fact that I am not Catholic. I get it. He was old. 88. Had a productive life doing his job well. I am already tired of hearing about it  I guess the one good thing is it bumped Trump and Carney off the front page for a few minutes.

Why is this very important decision being handed over to St. Louis' MLB baseball team?

True story -- up  until  this year the Catholic cardinal from the Philippines was Jaime Sin.  Cardinal Sin.
You can't dream this stuff up.

I remember there was once a cardinal whose last name was Sicola. They didn't want to elect him pontiff because they were afraid people would call him Pope Sicola! And imagine what the people at Coke would think...

Cardinal Sicola, not to be confused with the Swiss prelate Cardinal Ricola.

I'm wondering if JD Vance upset him so bad that he had a stroke which lead to heart failure. The timing is certainly suspect.

It probably won't surprise you to know that this is already an Internet meme.

The funeral will take place Saturday at 10am local time. This means live overnight programing for the networks and stations that cover it.
It will be interesting to see who goes over to Rome and who covers it from a studio here.

I can imagine that CBC and CTV possibly sending a small crew, but most likely CBC, they have a few bucks.

There is something about the phrase "live funeral" that has always seemed like an oxymoron to me.

I know there's nothing funny about the Pope's passing but I find the following two memes hilarious anyway. No offense is intended.

The top Italian candidate for pope is Cardinal Pizzabolla.
No lie.
Mamma mia that's a spicey pontiff!.
Older SOWNY members will get that reference.

The bring this back to radio, do we know yet if Pope Leo XIV in his younger days preferred listening to WCFL or WLS?

Given his current profession, my guess is probably WNTD 950 AM, owned by Relevant Radio. Its slogan is "Talk Radio for Catholic Life."

Does that mean he's not too pooped to Pope?

As a Chicago fella, he likely has all of the Styx albums and a generous appreciation of Liz Phair and Veruca Salt (even the in-between 'Veruca Starship' records). He will undoubtedly also be familiar with the WaxTrax scene - if I were a betting man I'd wager he had a Revolting Cocks tour tee underneath that smelly tunic.

The new Pope is American, I think he and Trump are going to buy the Vatican and make it the 52nd State...I am kidding, don't get your knickers in a knot.

Here is more info about Robert Prevost. Pope Leo XIV, not to be confused with Super Bowl XXXIV

I was raised in the Catholic Church, but lost my faith years ago. But this guy sounds like my kind of Pope. They say he likes hotdogs and beer.

In a radio interview the other day, his brother said "I will never address him as Pope. To me he will always be Bob."

After all is said and done, more is usually said than done.
