A major milestone for a famous set of NYC radio call letters, one of the longest continuing all-news stations in North America (and if I'm not mistaken, the format on which 680 News Radio here is based.) It survives even as its one-time competitor and later sister station, WCBS-AM, did not.

WEBR AM 970 in Buffalo is fondly remembered for their approach to news years ago, before the acquisition by WNYPB.  Multiple wire services contributing to the local anchors' stories.  John Gill, Doug Wightman, Mark Hamrick were among the best.

The CFTR model seems to have too much fluff and politicians posturing for my liking.  I do grudgingly tune in anytime I have to drive through the Metro area, the traffic reports are adequate.

Still with the news theme, but on television, April 16, 1962 saw the introduction of Walter Cronkite as the anchor of the CBS Evening News. A job he would hold for the next 19 years. He replaced Douglas Edwards who had been the anchor since March 1947.
