I swore it was 1976.  Gotta go look this up

Yeah it actually "topped out" in terms of height in 1975.  I remember it as a kid looking odd then.  My dad showed me pictures of the Moscow tower (I have to look up the name), and I remember thinking the CN Tower looked like that.

Cheers,

This was in the North American TV Guide from the July 3rd, 1976 edition.

Interesting how some local stations saw an opportunity to broadcast to Buffalo when it came into being in those pre-cable days. Reverse simulcast?

When the radio stations on the CN Tower first went on the air, I was furious. It blocked so many of the Buffalo stations I used to listen to without interference, I lost count. I've calmed down over the years, but there were days I wanted to go down there with an axe and try to chop the damn thing down!

It was great for local stations here, but it's the worst thing that ever happened for a would-be FM DXer in the city. It's a wonderful symbol for our city, but I still hate it!

Even though the CN Tower is 50, it doesn't really look dated at all.  Still looks contemporary when you see it in the day or all lighted up at night.

Which Buffalo stations did you have reception problems with?

I agree. In contrast, the Calgary tower and Seattle space-needle both look dated to me.

I didn't know about the CAA connection. That is the only discount that I could take advantage of.
